Welcome to June! The end of the school year has finally come, but before you go make sure to check out the month's tomato Superfood dishes. Land Ho! #CruisewithFlik is approaching the dock, just a couple more stops.
We can't wait to start cooking up new menus for next year - see you soon! And last but not least CONGRATULATIONS to the graduating seniors of 2016!
Blueberries are sweet, nutritious and wildly popular. Often labelled a “superfood,” they are incredibly good for you. They are so tasty and convenient that many people consider them to be their favorite fruit. Enjoy them on the salad bar and the take home Fruits Matter recipe card for the #FlikFamous Johnny Cakes created by Chef Julie!
Our Foods Matter program will focus on fruit. Fruits Matter will introduce interesting recipes and ways to incorporate seasonal fresh fruit, stone fruit, berries, and melons into our diets.
This year's Food Focus program will travel the world exploring breakfast. Throughout the year, International Breakfast for Lunch will focus on the breakfast hour. We will begin in Mexico and celebrate far away cuisines from Japan, Germany, and the Middle East.
Our Traveling Flavors program will take to the sea this year with a Caribbean Cruise that will float into your dining hall. Hit all the different food ports of call from Miami to Cuba and be sure to #CruisewithFlik and tweet its arrival.
Superfoods are foods that provide health benefits beyond their basic nutrient content. Typically seasonal, the monthly Superfood will be readily available and easy to incorporate into your meal. When possible, we display the Superfood in its raw form so that students can see what the food looks like before it is cooked.
Our Tastings program made to offer samples of nutritious foods in enticing ways. As we know, healthy eating is about balance and variety. While many children are interested in different kinds of foods and are willing to try new things, others are often averse to trying new foods. Ongoing encouragement to try a small amount of a new, healthy food or dish is key in acceptance –and enjoyment! –of this food. It can then be incorporated into the menu soon after the tasting and on an ongoing basis for students.
